What are BEANS?

BEANS is an NFT project initiated by the “Dumb Ways To Die“ (DWTD) public saftey campaign and mobile games. It is likely that you’ve heard of it, as it was one of the most well-known public campaigns and smartphone games in the past decade.

Having held its first large NFT sale on February 3, 2022; 7,000 BEANS were sold. These NFTs serve as the foundation for the BEANS universe which will include an MMO metaverse game, BEAN Pet NFTs, an upcoming TV series, board games and much more.

History of Dumb Ways to Die

Dumb Ways to Die was an Australian public safety campaign launched in 2012 by Metro Trains in Melbourne, Australia. The campaign quickly went viral due to its chart topping theme song which amassed millions of views worldwide. In 2013, Dumb Ways to Die became the most awarded public campaign in the history of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, receiving 28 Lions, and 5 Grands Prix honours.

On 6 May 2013, the first "Dumb Ways to Die" mobile app game was released, quickly climbing to number one in 22 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. The following year, Dumb Ways to Die 2 was released to even greater success, topping the charts in over 83 countries. The game consists of various levels that players are required to complete. Each level has an act designed to kill your adorable character, with the goal of promoting safety.

Following on from the incredible success of the mobile app games, campaign and theme song, game developers PlaySide Studios purchased the Dumb Ways to Die property from Metro Melbourne in October of 2021. Launching the BEANS NFTs in February 2022.

Now, Playside Studios are transforming the whole BEANS game into a new metaverse where you are able to play using your BEANS NFTs and BEANS Pet NFTs.

Game Mechanics

The BEANS game will have new DWTD levels, an open world and minigames. You are able to participate in these games using your own BEANS NFT characters.

While there is currently no mention of Play-to-Earn mechanics and no official information on in-game currencies, more information will certainly be provided once Bean Land is closer to release.

Socials & Team

While BEANS is a relatively new project in the NFT space, they have an active community, with around 50,000 followers on their Twitter and close to 90,000 Discord members.

BEANS was developed by PlaySide Studios. The studio is one of Australia's most prominent publicly-traded game developers and has produced a number of hit mobile games.

Going Forward

In efforts to grow the BEAN brand, Playside Studios plans to enter into agreements with influential figures and other prominent individuals to promote the expansion of this metaverse. According to Playside Studios CEO Gerry Sakkas, the team is continuing its Web 3.0 research and development introducing new products to the BEANS universe through 2022 and 2023.
