What is Australian Carbon Token?

The Australian Carbon Token (BCAU), also known as BetaCarbon token, is supported by Clean Energy Regulator approved Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).

  • With one ACCU being equivalent to 1000 kg of CO2 stored or removed, each BCAU token notionally represents 1 kg of carbon.
  • ACCUs are held in the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units with regular 3rd party audits to ensure compliance.
  • BCAU tokens utilise smart-contract security of the Ethereum Network, as such they have the flexibility to be transferred between any Eth-based wallet.

By tokenising Australian Carbon Credit Units on the blockchain and allowing access to smaller portions of ACCUs, BetaCarbon is enabling retail investors to gain entry to the carbon market. BetaCarbon’s long term objective is to prompt greater carbon sequestration and removal, driving up the cost to emit CO2, incentivising economy-wide emissions reduction.
