What is Core?

Core (CORE) is a Layer-1 (L1) blockchain powered by the Satoshi Plus consensus mechanism. By combining attributes of Delegated Proof of Work (DPoW) and Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), Core looks to provide a secure, decentralised, and scalable network.

  • According to their whitepaper, Core’s major innovation is a novel consensus mechanism, known as Satoshi Plus, that unites DPoW and DPoS. In doing this, Core incorporates Bitcoin miners in securing smart contracts.
  • Core is Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, meaning it can run Ethereum smart contracts and decentralised applications (dApps). Developers are rewarded for building dApps on the Core blockchain.
  • CORE is the native utility token of the Core network. It is used to cover blockchain fees, node operator payments, staking and governance. Token Holders can vote on token governance and consensus in their DAO.

Through offering innovations like Satoshi Plus, Core aims to strengthen the Bitcoin network without consuming unnecessary block space.
