What is Moonbeam?

Moonbeam (GLMR) is an Ethereum-compatible smart contract parachain running on the Polkadot network. Moonbeam aims to be an extension of the Ethereum network, making it easier to use popular Ethereum development tools. Glimmer (GLMR) is the utility token of the Moonbeam network.

  • The Moonbeam network requires Glimmer tokens to function. GLMR is responsible for the gas metering of smart contract execution, facilitating the on-chain governance mechanisms, and paying for transaction fees on the network.
